Saturday, 26 April 2014:
The class of 1979 held a follow-up planning meeting for our upcoming reunion. It was held at CMPB (Continental Melting Pot & Bar) at 7 Dempsey Road, a F&B outlet owned by Mr Lee Choon Khim, class of 1977 and cousin to Phillip Yeo Yong Long, class of 1979.
The day was a bittersweet one for us. Mrs Tay had just passed away that morning. When we arrived at the cafe, we found that Kong Yuen Hun (class of 1975) , Lynn Yeo Lee Keng (class of 1977) were there with Mr Chia Tiam Hee, our Math and softball teacher! Choon Khim was there of course and his sister, Sock Kiang (class of 1973), joined us later. Yuen Hun is also sister to Kong Wai Kit, the resident Math whiz of many talents from the class of 1979.
The surprise appearance of Mr Chia and other school seniors softened the blow of Mrs Tay’s passing. The boys were obviously in awe of Mr Chia having encountered his flying chalk or wooden ruler at one time or another. The girls, particularly Lynn and Yuen Hun, doted on Mr Chia, since they must have been well-behaved at school and had not experienced any disciplinary measures.
Another very pleasant surprise was Sharon Goh Sok Hoon turning up to join us! Yes, Sharon, you certainly made the joint CSI team effort of Kelvin, Eric Lee and I worth it! Thank you for making the effort to come and joining in the meeting. Hopefully, we haven’t scared you away yet with our (over-)enthusiasm and silly jokes.
We were all very happy to see Mr Chia and were honoured to have him there. Yet another enjoyable gathering for the class of 1979, with help from our seniors! Mrs Tay will be happy to see from where she is that we love the other teachers as much, and that we are making good progress towards the reunion.
