Until we meet again, Mrs Tay!

mrs tay Sep 1975 - Version 2We lost one of our most beloved teachers early this morning of 26 April 2014.

Mrs Cecilia Tay Seow Huah, as we knew her, was well known for her trademark cheongsam during our schooldays. She was firm with us but fair. When she heard news of our impending reunion, she was excited about the rate at which we were finding one another, being the ex-pupils and also other teachers. At the same time, she worried about whether she would make it up the stairs to our old school building for the group photo. She did not want to inconvenience anyone, she said. She planned to just sit somewhere while waiting for us to finish.

Despite not being very mobile, Mrs Tay knitted little woollen vests which she donated to needy children anywhere and everywhere. She had beautiful penmanship and put that to good use too by writing down her prayers, beautiful passages and Biblical verses she had read.

Mrs Tay was truly a selfless woman. She loved all all of us. We will miss you, Mrs Tay and we will honour your memory by being a bit more selfless and bring joy to those around us, just like you did.

We love you, Mrs Tay.

On behalf of the class of 1979,

Suzy Tan
